New Release of two Current Topics
Members should have received by now the latest Current Topics. Fine Motor Skills revised has always been a popular publication and has received a face lift with several additional activities. This publication highlights the importance of teaching young children the skill of handwriting and the correct pencil grip. We hope this will be especially helpful to teachers new to the profession. The current and new Australian Curriculum has identified Foundation script as the form of writing. Handwriting is not learnt by osmosis and many children come to school with incorrect pencil grips and techniques. Structured and regular (preferably daily) handwriting lessons are essential to ensure each child develops good handwriting habits to last for life. The cost is still $10 plus postage.
Technology in P-2 Classrooms is a new publication. It follows up on the many workshops ECEC has held over the past three years to support teachers introducing Interactive white boards and other Information technology strategies. This publication includes an article on the journey one teacher took in developing effective use of the IWB and how she supported her colleagues in their use of the technology. There is a chapter focussing on using technology for literacy and one for numeracy. The final chapter explores a wide range of available technologies and other strategies.
Each chapter has included photos and screen dumps and to make these more useful the publication has used colour. The committee hope this will enhance the use of the contents for teachers. This publication is $15 plus postage.

Thank you for your support in 2011. Our next workshops will be held in term one 2012. They will be on The Early Years Learning Framework in February and a repeat of VCOP the Big Write in March.
